Emma Lou Rogers was born to her mom Opal Wells (deceased) and her dad Hubert Wells (deceased) in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on February 9th, 1928. As a child, Emma grew up in Broken Arrow where she attended school and helped her mom with her sister and brothers. Emma also enjoyed attending church with her friends and singing hymns. She accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized at the age of 12.
From Broken Arrow her family moved to Topsy, Oklahoma, where she attended school and helped out her dad and mom on their place.
Emma was the oldest of six children: Don Wells (deceased), Carolyn Gardner of Louisiana, Johnny Wells of Wagoner, David Wells of Skiatook, and Roger Wells of Oologah, Ok.
Emma met and later married John On-the-Hill Jr. on May 21st 1947 at the age of nineteen. They lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Kansas before sitting up home in Jay. Emma and John resided in Jay until John’s death in 1982.
Emma gave birth to nine children: Larry On-the-Hill (deceased), Frank On-the-Hill (deceased), Sheliah Boggs of Jay, Pamela Wolfe of Jay, Debbie England of Wichita, Sonya Dick of Grove, Sandi Yochum of Siloam Springs, Bradly On-the-Hill of Baxter and Tina Wadlow of Zena.
Emma is grandmother of 18 children, a great-grandmother of 19 children, and a great-great grandmother of 5 children. Emma took on many roles: daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, caregiver and friend. Emma loved to fish, do puzzles, crafts, and loved to cook.
In 1989, Emma married Gilliam (LeRoy) Rogers and moved to Grove, Oklahoma, where the two resided until his death in 2006. Emma later moved in with a family member. Emma passed away January 27, 2012 at the age of 83.
